The Best Buddies Friendship Walk is the leading walk in the country supporting inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (also known as IDD).
Join 40,000 walkers across the country to support the Best Buddies programs in your schools, workplaces and communities. You’ll be making the world more welcoming to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities – one friendship, one job, and one life-changing connection at a time.
Our annual Friendship Walk will take place on June 12, 2021 and is one of the best ways to create connection and spread inclusion across Maryland and beyond. You may be wondering what this year’s walk will look like.
We are happy to share that we are planning for an in-person walk based on the maximum allowed gathering requirements at the time of the walk, which may either include a “distributed” walk where we will help organize walks in a number of locations throughout the state while adhering to the applicable gathering requirements, or a larger and more typical in-person walk if the gathering requirements are relaxed over the coming months. In all events, we will also have remote options for those who may not feel comfortable with an in-person gathering. Details will follow as we get closer to the walk date and we anticipate circulating this information in May. Please join us for the walk at one of the distributed locations or a larger site (if permitted) if you and your team feel comfortable; or if you prefer to join us from a distance, gather your pod and walk through your neighborhood or Local Park. We will provide exciting opportunities for everyone to be involved; after all, inclusion is our mission.
We are closely following the vaccine rollouts, government restrictions, guidelines, and recommendations. We are prepared to adjust our plans as needed. There is a lot of factors to consider, but the one thing we know for certain is that Friendship isn’t cancelled. Together we will create connections and spread inclusion. Stay tuned for additional details to be released over the next couple of months.
Thank you for your support of Best Buddies. And, we hope to “see” you in the way you feel most comfortable at this year’s Friendship Walk!

Let’s change the world for people with intellectual & developmental disabilities.
It’s much more than a walk, it’s a party!
Funds raised through the Friendship Walk benefits Best Buddies – the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our programs empower the special abilities of people with IDD by helping them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society.
The IDD community that Best Buddies serves includes, but is not limited to, people with Down Syndrome, Autism, Fragile X, Williams Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, traumatic brain injury and other undiagnosed disabilities.
